Buttercup Analog Wedding Photography - Who Is Buttercup

Butter who?

Legend says that if you place a buttercup flower underneath your chin and the chin glows yellow, you like butter. The more it glows, the more you love it.

At least that's what my lil P. used to tell me while we were exploring the wonders of Vancouver Island during my work & travel stay in Canada. This little lady meant a world to me and I treasure my Canadian times deeply in my hearth and mind. Together with my crazy passion in plants and nature, Buttercup sounded just right.

Hello, it’s me!

Buttercup is a one women show officially known as Kateřina ~ a Czech girl from south Moravia who loves to do all sorts of crafts and spending time outdoors.

It is a project that has been on my mind for years now and I’m super happy that it’s finally happening. But don’t be mistaken, I’ve shot hundreds of film rolls already and studied photography as my master’s degree, so I’m no beginner ~ I just gave Buttercup some time to grow into a full bloom.

Weddings on film

Buttercup is analog only, which means that I’m going to use oldschool cameras, some funky new ones and loads and loads of film. I love shooting both black & white and colour 35 mm and 120 mm rolls, but it is true that you can see more of the monochrome images in my portfolio.

I develop all the black & white films by myself, so maybe that’s why? I’m always stunned by the process and excited about the images I’m about to see at the end of it. And so should be you. ♥

  • Sorry, I’m no longer switching between analog and digital. Film photography is a really special medium that needs more time and has to be well thought through. Switching between different cameras AND different mediums puts you into a terrible stress. And I don’t want that. I love taking photographs and I want to enjoy it.

BUT! There is a way how to get both ~ I often shoot together with my beloved partner in work and life, Radek Trlica. He is an experienced wedding photographer and a wonderful person. Plus, if you book in with our analog & digital combo, you’ll get a special price deal, wink wink!

  • Of course! I’m happy to do black & white/colour only or give you a mixture, it’s completely up to you.

You can even choose between different colour tones ~ every film has a special colour palette, brigtness and contrast. We will go through these options during our face to face meeting, no worries. I’ll show you some examples and we will pick it out together.

  • To answer this question, I would need to know a bit more about this photoshoot first. But here are some basics that have to be counted with:

Black & white films are way cheaper than the colour ones. Depending on the brand and level of ISO, colour films can be even four times more expensive! So, if you want to see those bright colours of your wedding party, please be ready to pay something extra. Moreover, colour films have to be sent to the lab for developing, so that is another expense. I don’t want to scare you, colour analog photos are amazing and it is totally worth it. But I want to be clear that if you opt for this scenario, the price of the basic material will be higher.

Than it depends on how many hours would you want me to stay at that amazing event of yours. And also what would be the expected amount of photographs that you wish to flip through in the next many and many years together (so again, how much material am I going to use).

From my experience, the price can vary between 15–25 000 CZK (600–1 000 EUR). But, again, it is a topic that we’ll discuss in advance based on everyones wishes and needs. ♥
